Helyezzünk akadályt vonalhullámok útjába. Az akadály nem jelent tökéletes árnyékolást, az árnyékoló lemez széle hullámforrásként viselkedik, így az akadály mögött, annak közelében is lesz hullámtér. Egyesével indított hullámfrontoknál mindez még jobban megfigyelhető.
