There are two cylindrical bodies, a strong permanent magnet and a copper block of high conductivity. Due to the sudden change of magnetic flux the eddy currents produced in a body tend to hinder their generation so that they try to slow down the motion of the magnet. This effect will also hinder the relative morion of the two bodies. If they move away then attractive force is produced. By making use of this effect the magnet can even be lifted. By decreasing the temperature the conductivity of the metals is increasing. At the temperature of liquid nitrogen the eddy currents are much stronger than those at room temperature. So that phenomena connected with eddy currents will manifest themselves more pronouncedly.

Let us take two aluminum rings hanged on two files. By approaching a magnet only the aluminum ring that has no cut on it can be induced to swing. In this ring the eddy currents produced by the approaching magnet will be repelled b the magnet. This is not changed if one approaches with the opposite pole of the magnet.
