Egy lombikba üvegcső van beépítve, amely felül üreges tartályban végződik. Erre ugyan csak következtetni lehet, mert kívülről csőrős kacsafejet látunk. Az egész egybefüggő szerkezet úgy van felfüggesztve, hogy ingaként lengéseket végez a benne elhelyezkedő folyadék helyzetétől függően. Alkalmanként a kacsa széles csőre belelóg egy pohár vízbe. Ilyenkor rövidesen a folyadék a csőből az alsó tartályba folyik, és ettől marad a kacsa feje nedves. Néhány lengés után a kacsacsőr ismét a pohárba lóg, és az előbbi folyamat ismétlődik.
The thirsty duck I.
A glass tube is built into a flask with a hollow container at the upper end. From the outside it looks like a duck’s beaked head. The whole construction is suspended in such a way that depending of the position of the liquid inside it can swing like a pendulum. Occasionally the wide beak of the duck falls into a glass of water. In this case the liquid in the tube flows into the container and the end of the duck remains wet. After a few swings the beak will again falls into the water and the whole process is repeated.
