A vonalhullámok útjába helyezett akadályon most két keskeny nyílás van. Az így kialakított kettős rés mögött ugyanolyan interferenciaképet, intenzitáseloszlást figyelhetünk meg, mint a két együttrezgő pontforrás hullámterében. Legmarkánsabban a teljes kioltásnak megfelelő hiperbolaágak figyelhetők meg. A frekvencia növelésével a hiperbolaágak száma növekszik.

Let us put in the way of line waves two obstacles. In the slit produced in this way we can observe wave diffraction. If the slit is wide in comprison to the wave length, the edge of the shaded region will be badly defined. Let us now decrease the width of the slit. If it becomes smaller than the wave length the slit will behave as a point source.
